Addressing the Problem of Insufficient Food Production

Strategic Imperative: Prioritize Food Self-reliance

A nation’s sovereignty and freedom are deeply intertwined with its ability to sustain itself through its own food production. Currently, Nigeria stands at a crossroads, facing the challenge of not being able to adequately feed its population.

Under my administration, addressing this issue will be of paramount importance. We will launch a comprehensive series of strategic initiatives designed to significantly boost our national food production capabilities.

These initiatives will include investing in modern agricultural technologies, supporting small and large-scale farmers with resources and training, and implementing policies that encourage sustainable farming practices. We will also focus on improving supply chain logistics to ensure efficient distribution of food across the country.

By enhancing our agricultural infrastructure and empowering our farming communities, we aim to transform Nigeria into a self-sufficient nation, robust in its ability to meet the nutritional needs of all its citizens. Here are my top strategic initiatives:

Promote Agribusiness: By investing heavily in agribusiness and smaller farming initiatives, we aim to make Nigeria both self-reliant in food and a key exporter of agri-products in global markets.

Empower Small-scale Farmers: Priority will be given to small-scale farmers, especially women, offering them land access, water, seeds, and credit, supplemented with free business training.

Develop Comprehensive Agricultural Infrastructure: My administration is committed to working alongside our farmers to guarantee that crucial resources such as electricity, water, and storage facilities are readily available, addressing and removing these fundamental obstacles to their productivity.

Remove Agricultural Barriers: We commit to removing all federal regulation and local hindrances in the agricultural sphere and supporting all levels of food production.

Redistribute Land: A major land reform initiative will be launched, aiming to distribute significant portions of arable land among small-scale farmers and landless citizens for planting.

Encourage Cooperative Farming: We will emphasize and support farming cooperatives across the country, enhancing local food chains.

Facilitate Export: Export obstacles will be eliminated, orienting farmers toward global standards. Access to export facilities will be made more efficient.

Create Agricultural Centers of Excellence (ACE): These hubs will be dedicated to pioneering and spreading advanced agricultural techniques among farming communities. The Northern region, renowned as the country’s breadbasket, will serve as a prime example of an agricultural center of excellence.
